Republic, and an internationally recognized authority on modern Czech drama.

Note: The Gajdos lecture will be co-ordinated with the presentation of a short, original
radio drama by Vanda Feriancova, a prize-winning Slovak playwright and Senior Editor of the Radio Drama Department at Slovak National Radio (Bratislava,
Slovak Republic), who is currently a visiting scholar in the Department of English at Texas A&M University. Together, the lecture and dramatic
performance will be entitled "Modern Czech and Slovak Drama: A Lecture and a Performance.

Background: Dr. Rechcigl, who is a noted scholar, author and genealogist, will take you on
an exciting journey through Czech history and genealogy from the times of Duke Borivoj and
St. Ludmila in the ninth century A.D. to the golden era of the Kingdom of Bohemia
(especially under Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV of Bohemia and the Hussite King George of
Podebrady), to the discovery of the New World with an emphasis on early pioneer settlers
from the Czechlands, immigration of the Moravian Brethren - the spiritual followers of Jan
Hus "The Martyr" and Bishop John Amos Comenius to the canonization of the first
American male Saint John Nepomucene Neumann of Bohemia, and much more… Attendees will
