Washington, DC

Dear President Rechcigl, dear members of Czechoslovak Society of Arts and Sciences, dear conference participants,

I regret that I am unable to participate at SVU conference in Cedar Rapids. I know I will be missing a wonderful time! After four years mission here in the United States I am coming back to Slovakia. I have always admired your activities and your assistance to Czech and Slovaks in America. I think it is extremely important you will be discussing Czech and Slovak heritage in America, but also discuss the future relations between our countries and the United States.

After decades of communist’s tyranny our countries are not only free, but they are allies of the United States in its fight, for freedom and democracy worldwide. We have started a completely new chapter in our relations with America and I hope it will be successful and mutually beneficial one.

I and my wife Zora thank you for most wonderful time we have spent together and wish you successful conference. I hope to see many of you in Slovakia.

Best regards,

Martin Butora
Ambassador
