Executive Board Meeting - June 14, 1996
SVU
Executive Board held its regular meeting on June 14th at Mila Rechcigl's house in
Rockville, MD. The meeting was well attended and the conditions of the quorum were met.
The first point on the agenda was the report on the recent changes regarding the
distribution of Zpravy SVU. The newsletter which used to be distributed from New York is
now being mailed from Virginia where it is also printed. This should considerably speed up
the delivery of the newsletter to our members. To further streamline the process, Mila
Rechcigl convened a small meeting to review individual steps and to identify possible
bottlenecks. As a result of this meeting, specific guidelines were developed and various
target dates were established. The ultimate goal is to distribute the Zpravy SVU on the
first day of the first month of the intended bimonthly period, i.e. January-February issue
would be distributed on January 1; March-April issue on March 1 etc. To adhere to such
schedule would require that the Editor-in-Chief would set rigid deadlines for the receipt
of information for any particular issue.
As previously announced, this year's Annual meeting will be held in Texas, in conjunction
with our planned Conference in Belton during July 12-13, 1997. SVU President Rechcigl and
SVU Secretary-General Vera Ulbrecht will officially represent the Executive Board at the
meeting.
In his report on the progress of the new SVU Directory, Mila Rechcigl voiced his concern
about the small number of biographical questionnaires that have been so
far received from individual members. As was announced earlier, according to the Executive
Board's policy, included will be only members in good standing, i.e. those members who are
current with payments of their dues. Considering that some European members do not
pay their dues directly to the central Treasurer, or that some pf them may not pay at all,
and that only some of them may actually have access to Zpravy SVU, concern was expressed
that these individuals may not even be aware of the fact that a new SVU Directory is being
contemplated.
