CZECHOSLOVAK SOCIETY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES |
NEW SVU CHAPTER FOUNDED IN CESKE BUDEJOVICE
On October 16, 2006 a new Chapter of the Society of Arts and Sciences -
Academic Club has started in Ceske Budejovice. An organizational meeting of
Professor Libor Grubhoffer, Professor Vladimir Papousek and Professor
Frantisek Sehnal of the University of South Bohemia and Professor Karel
Raska, Jr. of the SVU took place at the Biology faculty in Ceske,
Budejovice. The success of the forming chapter was toasted by a California
Merlot of good vintage which survived a "special check" by the officers of
the Homeland Security at Newark Liberty Airport, and was approved by the
participants in Ceske, Budejovice!
The Chapter bylaws have already been adopted and the organization is being
registered in the Czech Republic. It has an impressive leadership - very
academic. The President is a notable biologist, Professor Frantisek Sehnal
of the Institute of Entomology of the Academy of Sciences of the Czech
Republic and a long-time member of the SVU. The Vice Presidents are
Professors Grubhoffer and Papousek, whom we all know from the Budejovice
Congress. Both natural and social sciences are thus well represented.
Their plans start at a high note and we wish them all the best success in
their activities.
Karel Raska, Jr.
