Dr. Petr Hausner Installed as New SVU President

At the SVU General Assembly, held on August 25 in Bohemian National Hall, New York, NY, Petr Hausner, M.D., Ph.D. was installed as the new SVU President for the period 2012-2014.
His election was enthusiastically received, as was the election of other officers, based on the Nomination slate which was carefully prepared by the Nominations Committee, headed by Dr. Blanka Kuděj. The newly elected SVU Executive Board is well balanced, covering major disciplines of academic spectrum.
In his well-prepared acceptance speech, Dr. Hausner promised to bring the Society to higher horizons, including the enhancement of the SVU membership, particularly with reference to the involvement of young people. Dr. Hausner is a noted oncologist who holds the position of Associate Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical School. Of the other elected new officers, who were there, i.e., Prof. Hugh Agnew, Prof. Igor Lukeš, Dr. Louis Reith and Prof. Michael P. Seng, presented some of their ideas on how to rejuvenate the Society and bring in new blood.
Among the reports, the Auditors’ Report, authoritatively and meticulously drafted by Ing. Jiří Eichler, Certified Government Auditing Professional, was particularly noteworthy, comprising a detailed assessment of the SVU finances and the financial management, with specific recommendations for the improvement of the future SVU fiscal policy and management practices.
