EXCURSION  TO THOMAS  JEFFERSON'S  MONTICELLO

The trip to Monticello was a very successful special event of the 20th SVU Congress. This excursion into history gave an opporuntity especially for the participants from abroad to learn about a great American. Perfect weather highlighted the beauty of the Virginia countryside.

Although the trip's main destination was Jefferson's home Monticello, the first stop was at the University of Virginia, founded by Thomas Jefferson, who designed and began construction two years before it was chartered in 1817. We toured the signnatyre landmark of the university The Rotunda, designed by Jefferson. The breathtakingly beautiful dome room originally housed the university library. After the tour of the "Academic Village," a unique creation of Jefferson's vision as an educator and talented architect, we proceeded to Monticello with a stop for a lunch of eye-popping abundant buffet.

Monticello was the beloved home of Thomas Jefferson, third president of the United States, also remembered as the author of The Declaration of Independence.

One of the most delighted participants of this excursion was Senator Petr Pithart from Prague. This event was organized by SVU Vice President Dagmar White.
