REPORTS OF MEETINGS

46th General Assembly Meeting

The 46th Annual Meting of SVU General Assembly took place in North Miami, Florida on March 18th, 2005, on the occasion of the SVU Conference there.
The meeting was scheduled for 4 PM but, as customary, it did not start until an hour later, because there was an insufficient number of members present.

After the opening, SVU President Mila Rechcigl, first thanked the Florida organizers, Bob Petrik and Cecilia Rokusek and the ACSCC Club, for all the work they have done in connection with the SVU Florida Conference and the ACSCC Festival. He then appointed Blanka Kudej as the Assembly recording secretary and named SVU Resolution Committee, consisting of Cecilia Rokusek, Chair, and John Fiala and Gail Naughton, members. Zdenek David was then asked to present the minutes from the last General Assembly meeting, held in Olomouc 2004, which was subsequently approved by the Assembly.

The next item on the agenda was a brief report, on behalf of the Florida Conference Organizing Committee, by Cecilia Rokusek. Then followed individual reports of SVU Local chapters, including Washington DC, Pittsburgh, New York, Nebraska, Chicago, Texas and Iowa. Karel Konecny of Palacky University reported that they are in process of establishing a new Chapter in Olomouc.

Rechcigl then presented his traditional State of the SVU Report covering the 2004-05 period. Although the report covered less than three quarters of the current administrative period, it was apparent that SVU accomplished a lot in such a relatively short time. Noted in particular was the extensive SVU publication program and the plans for creating a new chapter in Florida. His detailed report is reproduced elsewhere.

Then came the Treasurer Frank Mucha?s report, read by VP Vlado Simko, since the Treasurer could not be present at the meeting. As the report showed, the Society managed its fiscal affairs on balanced budget and its finances were in black.

Vladimir Papousek, Vice Rector of the University of South Bohemia in Ceske Budejovice, followed with a brief report on the preparation of the next SVU World Congress to be held on their University campus in June 2006.

In the meantime, the Resolution Committee completed drafting its Resolution which was presented to General Assembly by Cecilia Rokusek. It was unanimously approved.

With no additional business, the General Assembly meeting was adjourned.
