What do war criminals, dictators, corrupt politicians, and senior officials have in common? He took an active part in the work of the United Nations peacekeeping forces in the former Yugoslavia (UNPROFOR) in 1994 and, starting in April 1995, he served for more than nine years as an investigator with the International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague, Netherlands. Until March 2023, he headed the United Nations Office of Internal Oversight Services (OIOS) in New York. He currently lectures as a freelancer in the Czech Republic and abroad. <\/p>\n<p>Dzuro\u2019s previous book, <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nebraskapress.unl.edu\/potomac-books\/9781640121959\/the-investigator\/\">The Investigator: Demons of the Balkan War<\/em> (2019, Nebraska Press)<\/a>, is a firsthand report on the operations that led to the arrest of the first war criminal in the former Yugoslavia, as well as his investigations into numerous war crimes committed in Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina. Part investigative memoir and part real-life thriller, it offers a rare inside perspective on the pursuit of justice in the Yugoslav wars.
