Book Signing at the Czech Embassy in Washington, DC

Washington, D.C., December 8, 2011:
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of SVU publication activity, the Czech Embassy, together with the Washington Chapter of SVU, presented an evening of book signing of Czechmate: From Bohemian Paradise to American Haven, a memoir of SVU Past President, Dr. Miloslav Rechcígl.

The event was opened by the Ambassador of the Czech Republic, Petr Gandalovič, who greeted the audience and praised the author. He was followed by Dr. Zdeněk David, SVU Secretary General, who discussed in depth Dr. Rechcígl’s research and publishing activity in many fields. Věra Bořkovec, President of the Washington Chapter of SVU, also greeted the guests and explained how her 50-year acquaintance with the author and his wife Eva made her aware of their hard work and dedication to the Society that resulted in so many valuable publications. She concluded by saying that the evening’s book signing is a fitting occasion to celebrate SVU’s publication activity for which Dr. Rechcígl should be commended.

Before the actual book signing of the memoir, Dr. Rechcígl mentioned some of the highlights of the book and some members who had already read it, added their comments.

The evening was a great success, with many members in attendance, and it was a real enhancement of the prestige of SVU.
